The Volkswagen T-Cross enters 2024 with significant revisions. Launched in 2019, the brand’s third best-selling model has reached the midpoint of its life cycle, making it time for the customary facelift.

At the front, there are new LED headlights and a revised light signature, which may incorporate a slim LED strip running across the grille. The rear lights also receive new internal elements, while the bumpers have been redesigned. New shades have also been added to the colour palette.

The cabin is arguably where the Volkswagen T-Cross 2024 makes its strongest case. As well as fresh materials, the dashboard now features new displays for the instrument cluster (Digital Cockpit) and infotainment system, with sizes ranging from 8″ to 10″. The climate-control functions have not been incorporated into the infotainment display, although the controls have been updated with new touch-sensitive switches.

During the brief driving experience I had with the T-Cross 2024, it retained the qualities we already recognised: room for (almost) everything, comfort and just the right amount of dynamic ability.

That said, the most noticeable changes are inside, starting with the materials, which are more pleasing both visually and to the touch. The new 8″ central screen offers improved image quality and responds more quickly. The infotainment system remains as straightforward to operate as before.

Range for Portugal

The T-Cross still does not gain an electrified option, so the line-up continues to consist of just two purely combustion-engine powertrains, spread across four trim levels - T-Cross, Urban, Style and R-Line:

• 1.0 TSI, 95 PS, five-speed manual gearbox;
• 1.0 TSI, 115 PS, six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) gearbox.

The updated T-Cross comes as standard with LED headlights, Digital Cockpit and an 8″ infotainment display. Standard equipment also includes USB-C ports, rear parking sensors and traffic-sign recognition.

The Urban trim, available for an additional €2,472, adds 17″ Bangalore alloy wheels, logo projectors in the exterior door-mirror housings, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Both the Style and R-Line trims sit at the top of the range. They are differentiated by their respectively more elegant and sportier looks, and are only offered with the 1.0 TSI, 115 PS engine and seven-speed DSG gearbox.
