Leapmotor B05 previewed ahead of Munich Motor Show

With the Munich Motor Show, running from 9 to 14 September, drawing closer, Leapmotor has released the first preview images of its next major arrival for the European market: the B05.

Known as the Lafa 5 in China, the B05 is a compact family car measuring around 4.3 metres long. It will take on models including the Volkswagen ID.3, Renault Megane E-Tech, Peugeot e-308 and the new Kia EV4.

What do we know so far?

Built on the LEAP 3.5 platform also used by the B10 SUV, the Leapmotor B05 is expected to be more affordable and marginally smaller. It will sit between the B10 and the city-focused T03 in the brand's line-up.

The released pictures show smooth styling, curved LED headlights, flush door handles and a substantial rear spoiler, in keeping with the design direction adopted across the rest of the brand's range.

While no cabin images have yet been revealed, the interior is expected to closely mirror that of the B10. This would mean an 8.8-inch instrument display and a 14.6-inch central screen.

Expected Leapmotor B05 powertrain

Final technical specifications have not yet been announced. However, should it share the B10's hardware, this electric car is likely to use a 159 kW (217 hp) motor, paired with one of two LFP-chemistry battery packs: 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh. In the B10, the larger battery provides a range of 434 km.

It also remains to be confirmed whether it will be offered with a range-extender version, as is the case with the larger C10.

When will it arrive?

The Leapmotor B05 is scheduled to reach the European market during the second half of 2026, with prices below €30,000. According to CnEVPost, it is expected to be built in Spain at Stellantis's Zaragoza plant, alongside the B10.

Two further models are also planned for a later date: the Leapmotor A10, which is expected to compete with electric SUVs such as the Renault 4, and the A05, which will rival cars including the Volkswagen ID.2.
