Hyundai i20 receives a subtle refresh

After unveiling a new generation of the Kona, Hyundai has given its “spearhead” in the B-segment, the i20, a more modest update.

The third-generation Hyundai i20 therefore gains fresh selling points, with greater digital functionality and connectivity. It has also been “refreshed” through several visual revisions, while receiving additional equipment.

A subtly revised look

As this is a facelift, the styling changes are not dramatic, although they are immediately apparent at the front. Both the bumper and front grille have been redesigned.

There are updates at the rear too, including a revised bumper and a new LED light signature, matching the technology used at the front.

Hyundai’s supermini is also now offered in three new colours - Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Grey Pearl and Meta Blue Pearl - alongside new wheel designs ranging from 16 to 17 inches.

More comprehensive equipment

Inside, the design remains unchanged, although the i20 now comes as standard with a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, USB-C ports and over-the-air updates for the navigation system.

A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is available as an option, paired with a central display of the same size. It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

There are also additions to the driving assistance systems. The Hyundai i20 now includes lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic collision assist, blind-spot assist and navigation-based adaptive cruise control as standard.

In addition, the emergency braking system designed to prevent frontal collisions can now detect cyclists.

Hyundai i20 engine updates

There are mechanical changes as well, with the Hyundai i20 offered with two petrol engines. Both are 1-litre three-cylinder units and are now paired with a 48 V mild-hybrid system.

One produces 100 PS and the other 120 PS, with both available with either a six-speed manual gearbox (iMT) or a seven-speed automatic transmission (7DCT).

The current model’s 1.2-litre 84 PS petrol engine will not be offered in the updated model, at least at launch.

When will it arrive?

Built in Izmit, Turkey, production of the updated Hyundai i20 will begin in the third quarter of this year, with its market launch following shortly afterwards.
