Dacia Duster electric confirmed as brand prepares for more electrification

As European Union emissions targets become stricter, every car maker must pursue electrification strategies, and Dacia is no exception.

The Romanian brand currently has just one fully electric model in its line-up: the Dacia Spring. However, more fully electric Dacia models will reach the market over the coming years. Denis Le Vot, chief executive of the Romanian brand, gave this assurance in an interview with Autocar.

According to Le Vot, Dacia is about to begin a new phase defined by “a lot of electrification” - with the details of that plan set to be revealed in November. The Dacia CEO has already confirmed one forthcoming addition: a fully electric Duster.

A fully electric Dacia Duster

This version should make the Dacia Duster even more appealing to Portuguese businesses. It is worth remembering that Portuguese taxation, particularly for companies, is highly favourable towards fully electric cars: full VAT deduction, more attractive autonomous taxation - with no charge on vehicles costing up to €62,500 plus VAT - and exemption from IUC vehicle tax.

Denis Le Vot has not yet provided a launch date, although he said it “will come in time”. The third generation of the Bigster was launched at the start of 2024, with combustion-engine options - petrol and bi-fuel - as well as a hybrid version.

This means the current generation still has many years ahead of it. The arrival of an electric Duster will therefore complement the range rather than replace its other powertrains.

What do we know about the electric Duster?

The Dacia Duster electric is expected to use an existing Renault Group architecture: Ampr Small, the new name for CMF-BEV, which also underpins the Renault 5 and Renault 4.

Ampr Small has its roots in CMF-B, the platform currently used by every Dacia apart from the Spring. As a result, an electric Duster could be competitively priced thanks to potential synergies with the combustion-engined model. Indeed, one of Dacia’s key principles for keeping prices low is maximising synergies - through shared components, for example - across all its models.

Future plans for Dacia electrification

Dacia’s electrification programme will not stop with the Duster. The launch of the Spring’s successor has already been confirmed; it will be unveiled in 2026 and based on the new Renault Twingo.

The next-generation Sandero is also expected to receive an electric version, scheduled to reach the market in 2027. As with the Duster, the electric variant should sit alongside conventional powertrains rather than immediately replacing them.
