Notably, the technology will not appear directly in Chery vehicles
At its Battery Night 2026 event in China, Chery outlined the progress it has made with solid-state battery development. According to the company’s chairman, Yin Tongyue, Chery’s pilot production lines have already produced cells at several energy-density levels, which are now undergoing extensive and demanding testing.
As Chery vice-president Gu Chunshan explained, the company is placing no limits on future investment in all-solid-state batteries. Chery specifically presented two promising solutions: one with an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and another rated at 600 Wh/kg. The latter is claimed to provide a driving range of more than 1,500 km.
At the same time, the company announced three forthcoming models using different battery technologies. These will not be Chery-branded vehicles, however, but models from the Exeed Exlantix sub-brand. The new Exlantix ES will use a liquid battery called Rhino E, which is claimed to add 500 km of range in eight minutes of charging. The Exeed Exlantix EX7, a five-seat crossover due in the fourth quarter of this year, will be fitted with a semi-solid-state battery. Meanwhile, the shooting-brake Exeed Exlantix ES8 will become the first model equipped with an all-solid-state traction battery, with its launch scheduled for 2027.
