Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: 770 hp and 847 Nm in 3.3 seconds

With 770 hp and 847 Nm produced by its enormous 5,200 cc supercharged V8 engine, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 ranks among the finest muscle cars money can buy - except in Europe, where it will not be sold.

Ford had already revealed that the Mustang Shelby GT500 completes the 0–160 km/h–0 test in 10.6 seconds. It has now confirmed the times for 0–96 km/h (60 mph) and the quarter-mile (roughly 400 m). It reaches the first benchmark in just 3.3 seconds and completes the second in 10.7 seconds.

For comparison, the previous GT500 required 3.5 seconds and 11.8 seconds respectively. The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye takes 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h. Within the Dodge line-up, only the “monstrous” Challenger SRT Demon - which is focused on the drag strip - is quicker, recording 2.3 seconds from 0 to 96 km/h and 9.65 seconds over the quarter-mile.

Carbon-fibre wheels as advanced as Ferrari’s

The Carbon Fiber Track equipment pack, priced at 18,500 dollars (around 16,600 euros), includes carbon-fibre wheels. Measuring 20 inches, they are made by the small Australian company Carbon Revolution, which also produces wheels for the Shelby GT350, Ford GT and… Ferrari 488 Pista.

Following continual development work, these wheels have a gloss finish rather than being painted, as they are on the Shelby GT350. Although they measure 20 inches rather than the 19-inch wheels fitted to the Shelby GT350, they retain the same weight: 7.7 kg.
