New Kia Stonic (2026): prices, equipment and engines

Kia has been “flying” and is expected to end the year among the 10 best-selling car brands in Portugal. By November, the South Korean manufacturer had already sold 7,305 units, giving it a market share of around 3.6%.

The expansion of its electric range, with launches such as the EV3 and EV4, has been crucial to Kia’s growth in Portugal. Even so, the brand has not turned its back on internal-combustion models.

It has refreshed the Sportage and Sorento, and is preparing to unveil the new XCeed and the replacement for the Ceed (and Ceed SW) next year. These will be called the K4 and K4 SW respectively. Before that, however, the priority was to “deal with” the Stonic, something of a sales champion for Kia in the Portuguese market and now available from €23,990.

A successful model

Launched in 2017 and updated in 2021, the Stonic has sold approximately 13,500 units in Portugal. It currently accounts for around 30% of the South Korean brand’s sales in the country. That underlines the significance of this B-segment model, which has just received its most extensive update yet.

Kia says that virtually only the doors have been carried over from the previous model. Everything else is new, beginning with the exterior styling. Following the design direction of the brand’s newest models, it adopts sharper lines and more pronounced creases.

This is immediately clear at the front, which features a new vertical light signature, a redesigned grille and a bumper with a chrome lower trim. At the rear, the lights now take on a “C” shape, as on the EV3 and EV4, and are housed within a wider tailgate.

The new Kia Stonic also receives newly designed 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels, along with two additional body colours: Adventurous Green and Yacht Blue.

Inside, the transformation is equally comprehensive. The Stonic has abandoned its previous layout in favour of one similar to that seen in models such as the EV3 and EV4. It now features a digital panel with two side-by-side displays: an 11.1-inch instrument screen and a 12.3-inch infotainment display.

Further down, the climate-control interface has also been redesigned, as have the gear selector controls, steering wheel and centre console. The latter now includes a wireless charging pad for a smartphone.

To bring the Stonic further up to date, Kia has also added technologies including a digital key, removing the need to carry the conventional key by integrating it into a mobile phone.

The areas in which the Stonic remains unchanged are passenger space and luggage capacity, which is still set at 352 litres, or 1,155 litres with the rear seats folded.

Its technology and safety package has also been enhanced, and now includes systems such as automatic braking, blind-spot detection with Safe Exit Warning, navigation-based Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist and Highway Driving Assist for motorway support.

Just one engine

Finally, there are the powertrains. Or rather, powertrain: in the Portuguese market, the Kia Stonic is offered solely with the turbocharged 1.0 T-GDi petrol engine, producing 100 hp and 172 Nm of maximum torque.

This unit can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission, although the latter is available exclusively with the higher Tech trim level.

As for trim levels, the new Stonic comes as standard from the entry-level Drive version with 16-inch alloy wheels, the dual-screen setup (11.1-inch + 12.3-inch) with navigation, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control.

The higher Tech trim additionally brings automatic air conditioning, an electric parking brake on automatic versions, electrically folding door mirrors, Full LED lighting, 17-inch alloy wheels and rear privacy glass.

How much will it cost?

Now available in Portugal, the Kia Stonic (2026) starts at €23,990 for the manual Drive version.
