Mazda CX-5: third generation to be unveiled on 10 July

Despite having been on sale for almost 10 years, the Mazda CX-5 remains the Japanese brand’s best-selling model worldwide. Its third generation is now close, with its global debut scheduled for 10 July.

Alongside confirmation of the unveiling date, Mazda released the first teaser images. These highlight the new front lighting signature and reveal part of the rear section.

Mazda CX-5: an evolutionary new look

The model’s full outline is still under wraps, although spy shots of development prototypes point to an evolution of the current generation rather than a complete redesign - if it isn’t broken…

Even so, Mazda says in a statement that the new CX-5 will stand out through a “bolder design”, as well as additional technology and “a more engaging and intuitive driving experience”.

What do we know so far?

While the teasers only show exterior details, the Mazda CX-5 2026 will also gain an entirely new interior as part of this new generation. The current model still combines analogue and digital features, but, as seen in newer Mazdas such as the CX-60 and CX-80, the next CX-5 is expected to embrace greater digitalisation and offer fewer physical buttons.

Engines and hybrid plans

There will be changes to the powertrain line-up too, although the biggest addition will not arrive until 2027: a hybrid version (full hybrid, with no external charging), coinciding with the introduction of the Skyactiv-Z petrol engine. Mazda promises this will be its most efficient petrol engine ever.

Until then, all indications suggest that the CX-5 will continue with updated versions of the engines currently offered. In Portugal, the model is available with a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 165 hp, with prices starting from €42,719.

When will it arrive?

Although the global presentation is just around the corner, Mazda has yet to announce a European market launch date or provide indicative pricing for the new CX-5 generation. Further details will only be released after its official unveiling on 10 July.
