New Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series revealed

If AMG’s first electric model has been attracting the spotlight, the announcement of a new AMG GT Black Series is enough to shift attention elsewhere. Affalterbach has now released the first images-still showing the car in camouflage-of what it describes as the “most extreme AMG ever”.

Although confirmation has only just arrived, the story began last year with the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport Concept. That prototype provided the basis for two separate models: the replacement for the AMG GT3 and the forthcoming road-going GT Black Series.

Motorsport DNA for the road

The new-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is being developed alongside the GT3, while also serving as the homologation model for the racing car. This strategy strengthens the direct track-to-road connection, one of AMG’s defining principles.

No technical details have yet been disclosed, but the objective is unmistakable: to raise the benchmark for performance, handling and circuit focus. The German brand even refers to an “uncompromising” approach, signalling a car that will be more radical still than its predecessor.

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series V8 engine

Rumours suggest that the long bonnet will conceal the new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft, the M 177 Evo. This engine first appeared in an entirely different machine: the extensively revised S-Class. A flat-plane crankshaft is not new to the Black Series, having debuted in the previous GT Black Series.

In the most extreme Mercedes-AMG GT, that twin-turbo V8 produced 730 hp and 800 Nm of torque, making the Black Series AMG’s most powerful V8 ever. The next generation is expected to exceed those figures.

Testing is already under way

The first prototypes of the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series have been at an advanced stage of development since late 2025, undergoing an intensive testing programme at several European circuits.

These include the Algarve International Circuit, alongside other familiar venues such as the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, where AMG is expected to carry out the final calibration work on what promises to be its most track-focused model to date.

For now, the manufacturer has not provided a launch date or technical specifications, but one thing is certain: AMG is not ready to give up combustion engines in its most extreme models.
