SAIC Z7 looks remarkably like the Porsche Taycan

SAIC Z7 and Z7T: a striking Taycan resemblance

At first glance, it would be easy to mistake this for a Porsche Taycan, yet this model was not created in Stuttgart. It comes from China and is called the SAIC Z7.

Virtually everything is remarkably close to Porsche’s electric car, from its proportions and dimensions to several styling details. This applies both to the saloon and to the newly unveiled Z7T estate, which appears to be the “spitting image” of the Taycan Sport Turismo.

HIMA technology and electric powertrains

The Z7/Z7T is the product of a partnership between SAIC and Huawei within the HIMA technology ecosystem, which is intended to develop next-generation intelligent cars. The technology giant supplies the technology - the HarmonyOS operating system, the ADS autonomous driving system and components including the LiDAR unit visible on the roof - while SAIC is responsible for development and production.

Detailed specifications will be announced shortly, although it is already known that rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions will be offered, along with two battery options: 80 kWh and 100 kWh.

SAIC Z7 pricing

Price is the area in which SAIC has not followed Porsche’s lead. The new SAIC Z7 and Z7T are expected to be priced between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan, roughly €32,000 to €45,000. By comparison, the least expensive Porsche Taycan in China starts at just over 900,000 yuan, around €114,000.
