Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQE SUV Production Could End Next Year

Production of the Mercedes-Benz EQE, in both saloon and SUV forms, is expected to end as early as next year. The report comes from Autocar, although Mercedes-Benz has not yet officially confirmed it.

The British publication says the move is part of a strategic repositioning of the German brand’s electric range, prompted by increasing model overlap within its EV line-up.

If production does end, it will mark an early departure for both models, which were launched in 2022. The planned mid-cycle update for the EQE and EQE SUV is therefore no longer expected to go ahead. According to Autocar, only the EQS saloon and SUV, which use the same EVA platform, will receive updates.

The EQE and EQE SUV will be indirectly replaced by the new electric C-Class and GLC, both of which are due to reach the market during 2026. The electric E-Class, scheduled for 2027, will become the direct successor to the EQE saloon.

Electric GLC will arrive first

The first of these new EVs to be unveiled will be the electric GLC, which will make its public debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, running from 9 to 14 September.

It will introduce the new MB.EA platform, which will also underpin future electric C-Class and E-Class models. Key features of this architecture include an 800V electrical system, next-generation electric motors known as eATS2, and silicon-carbide inverters. Mercedes-Benz promises improved performance and efficiency.

Both the GLC and C-Class are also expected to offer technology comparable with that of the EQE, including air suspension and rear-wheel steering. In the GLC’s case, it is even set to provide greater carrying and towing capacity than the EQE SUV.

Although the EQE and EQE SUV have received upgrades over time, these never resulted in convincing sales figures.

With the arrival of the new electric GLC and C-Class, the existing models will also become less competitive technologically. Their styling is expected to be closer to that of combustion-engined models, which should make it more widely accepted and better received.
