Mazda CX-6e revealed in Europe: everything about the new electric SUV

The name is new, but the vehicle it identifies is not. The Mazda CX-6e has just been unveiled in Europe, although it has been on sale in China for several months under the EZ-60 name. Like the 6e saloon, the CX-6e is the product of Mazda’s partnership with Changan Automobile and shares much with the Deepal S07, which is also sold in Portugal.

Its first public appearance is scheduled for today, 9 January, at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, alongside several other international debuts.

However, we “cheated” and saw it earlier at Mazda’s European Research and Development Centre in Frankfurt, Germany, where the work undertaken to distinguish the CX-6e from its Chinese “cousin” was clear. We share everything in this video:

At first glance, its overall proportions appear to be its only similarity to the S07. Measuring 4,850 mm long, 1,935 mm wide and 1,620 mm high, with a 2,902 mm wheelbase, the new Mazda CX-6e is 10 mm longer, 5 mm wider and lower, and has just 2 mm more between its axles than its Chinese “cousin”.

Beyond that, the Japanese SUV bears no resemblance to the S07, reflecting the impressive work carried out by Mazda’s design team. Due to arrive next June, the new CX-6e has rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, XPeng G6 and even the Audi Q6 e-tron in its “sights”.

Its proportions are conventional, matching those of a combustion-engined model, while its clean surfaces follow the familiar Kodo design language. These are combined with the brand’s signature elements, now reinterpreted through the use of lighting.

Large outside, giant screen inside

Inside, it is impossible to overlook the enormous display occupying two-thirds of the dashboard. It measures 26 inches, has 5K resolution and brings together all SUV functions, including infotainment and climate control, which may not appeal to everyone.

To make it easier to use, it provides wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, alongside a 23-speaker audio system powered by a 1,280 W amplifier.

In its most “well-equipped” trim level, the Mazda CX-6e adds three further displays to the 26-inch screen: two for the digital door mirrors and another for the interior rear-view mirror, which can use a camera whenever the driver wishes.

Drawing inspiration from the Japanese ma philosophy, which celebrates the significance of empty spaces between objects, the Japanese SUV’s interior comes in three colour schemes: Maztex Beige and Black, or, in the higher-specification Takumi Plus version, an Amethyst and White Maztex combination.

As for roominess, Mazda says the new CX-6e provides numerous interior storage spaces, complemented by a boot with a capacity ranging from 368 litres to 1,434 litres.

It is important to note, however, that the stated figure does not reflect the impression or the actual room offered by this model. While it is not class-leading, it is not as restrictive as it might seem.

Mazda CX-6e available only as a fully electric SUV

As expected, the platform is exactly the same as that used by its 6e “sibling”: EPA1. That does not mean their configurations are identical, however.

While the CX-6e - or EZ-60, as it is known there - can be fitted with a range extender in China, the European version is different: it will be available exclusively as a fully electric model. Unlike the saloon, the SUV will also be offered only with the higher-capacity 80 kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 484 km on the WLTP cycle.

Powertrain choice is equally straightforward with the CX-6e: there is one electric motor, mounted on the rear axle, producing 190 kW (258 hp) and 290 Nm of torque. That is enough to take its 2,130 kg from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 185 km/h.

When it is time to charge the new CX-6e, the Japanese SUV needs only 24 minutes to take its battery from 10% to 80%, thanks to DC charging at up to 195 kW.

Arriving in June

As already mentioned, the new Mazda CX-6e is due to launch next June. Offered in two trim levels - Takumi and Takumi Plus - the Japanese manufacturer’s new electric SUV does not yet have pricing for the Portuguese market.

For comparison, its 6e “sibling” is available from €42,508, so the CX-6e is expected to cost more than this.
