New Renault Kangoo and Renault Express revealed

The new Renault Kangoo, previewed around two years ago by the Kangoo Z.E. Concept prototype, has now been unveiled - and it comes with a major surprise: the return of the Renault Express. This is not a version of the new Kangoo, however, but a separate model in its own right.

Starting with the new Kangoo, its close relationship with the concept car that foreshadowed it is immediately clear. It will be offered in both commercial vehicle and passenger versions, with both set to be sold across Europe.

For working users, the Kangoo Van will be available in two body lengths, with manual or automatic gearboxes and a choice of diesel, petrol and electric powertrains.

Renault Kangoo: plenty of load space

The standard version of the new Kangoo offers between 3.3 m³ and 3.9 m³ of load capacity, while the long-wheelbase model provides from 4.2 m³ to 4.9 m³. It also features two systems intended to make everyday work easier.

The first, “Easy Side Access”, removes the central pillar to make loading and unloading simpler. This creates the widest side opening on the market, measuring 1,416 mm. The second system, “Easy Inside Rack”, is a removable shelf that enables long or bulky items to be carried above the passenger seat, freeing up room in the load area.

Technology for work and beyond

Alongside its entirely new design and redesigned seats, the Kangoo’s cabin features the EASY LINK multimedia system.

Its safety and driver-assistance technology includes a digital rear-view mirror, trailer stability control and an active emergency braking system.

The Renault Express

While the arrival of the new Kangoo had been expected, the new Renault Express was a surprise, as few anticipated the French brand expanding its range at this level with another model. Built in Tangier, Morocco, it clearly shares familiar styling cues with the Dacia Dokker, which is also made there. The new Kangoo, meanwhile, will be produced in France.

Available in commercial vehicle and passenger forms, only the former - the Express Van - will be sold in the UK. It offers the segment’s largest amount of interior storage, at 48 litres, as well as between 3.3 m³ and 3.7 m³ of load capacity.

Renault describes the Express Van as a solution for those seeking “the best performance/price ratio, in a proposition that meets their basic needs”. It is effectively the Kangoo’s smaller sibling.

Even so, it does not go without equipment such as the Renault EASY LINK multimedia system or driver aids including a rear-view assistance system, blind-spot warning, parking sensors and a wide-angle mirror.

When will they arrive and how much will they cost?

For now, Renault has not released further details about its new pair of commercial vehicles. As mentioned at the outset, the new Renault Kangoo will be offered with petrol and diesel engines, as well as an electric variant. No additional information has been provided for the Renault Express.

Both the Renault Kangoo and Renault Express are expected to go on sale from spring 2021. No pricing information has been announced.
