The name could hardly be more literal: Peugeot Turbo 100. As it suggests, it has a turbocharger and delivers 100 hp. Although modest in output, as will become clear, this engine incorporates very recent technologies.
More than a renaming exercise, it represents a complete overhaul of a technology that remains the driving force of Europe’s car industry: petrol engines. It also marks a new chapter for Peugeot’s engine family after the issues linked to PureTech engines, particularly in models built before 2022.
Peugeot Turbo 100: a revised 1.2-litre architecture
The layout remains the same: three cylinders and 1.2 litres of displacement. Nearly everything else, however, is new, from the engine block and turbocharger to the injection system and timing arrangement.
The most important alteration is found in the timing system. Peugeot has abandoned the oil-immersed belt in favour of a timing chain, a technically more durable solution with a lower risk of deterioration over time.
For fuelling, Peugeot has introduced a new 350-bar high-pressure direct-injection system, together with a variable-geometry turbocharger intended to provide stronger response from low engine speeds.
Miller-cycle efficiency and performance
The changes go further still. The new engine uses the Miller cycle and a higher compression ratio to improve thermal efficiency. Overall, Peugeot says that around 70% of the components in this Peugeot Turbo 100 engine are new.
Final figures stand at 101 hp (74 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 205 Nm of torque available from 1,750 rpm. These are “old-school” figures that do not aim to impress on paper, but they match what this engine is designed to deliver: performance suited to drivers’ real-world needs. In other words, low-rev responsiveness, reliability and restrained fuel consumption.
Servicing intervals and availability
Maintenance is another notable point. Peugeot has announced longer service intervals, extended to two years or 25,000 km, with an annual interim check. According to the brand, the aim is also to lower maintenance costs.
The Turbo 100 engine will be available in the Peugeot 208 from March and in the Peugeot 2008 from May 2026. These are two high-volume models that have led sales in Portugal for several consecutive years - see which models have been Portugal’s best-sellers this year in this article:
