Toyota Hiace H200 will be updated for 2026

The Toyota Hiace is one of those names everybody recognises, much like the Hilux or Corolla. This light commercial vehicle has been around since the 1960s, proving that market logic can outweigh any passing trend.

Toyota Hiace H200: still in demand in Japan

Built in Japan since 2004 - 22 years and counting… - the fifth-generation H200 has already seen its successor, the H300, arrive in 2019. Yet it remains so popular in its home market that Toyota has no intention of ending production. Instead, it is set to receive an update.

For 2026, the changes are limited to minor revisions covering emissions, safety and equipment, without altering its fundamental character. There are no sweeping changes, only what is needed to keep it legal, relevant and desirable.

A versatile cab-over commercial vehicle

While the rest of the world - with Europe as an exception - has already received the latest Hiace, featuring a front-mounted engine and a conventional bonnet, Japanese buyers still favour the version with its engine positioned beneath the front seats.

This layout is said to make the Toyota Hiace easier to adapt for an almost limitless range of roles. Its most important applications include compact motorhomes, ambulances and mobile workshops.
