Changan Deepal S05: the new electric crossover unveiled in Munich

Changan is among the newest Chinese brands to enter the European market. Although it already operates in more than 60 countries, its move into the “old continent” only began this year with the all-electric Deepal S07 SUV.

However, this is merely the opening model in an offensive of nine vehicles planned for the next three years. The latest addition is the new S05, which has just been unveiled at the 2025 Munich Motor Show.

Changan Deepal S05 dimensions and exterior design

Measuring 4620 mm long, 1900 mm wide and 1600 mm high, with a 2880 mm wheelbase, the Changan Deepal S05 is positioned as a compact crossover designed primarily for urban mobility.

On the outside, the Chinese model adopts several styling cues from its S07 “sibling”, most notably its sharp front end and pronounced lines, split headlamps, and flush door handles intended to reduce aerodynamic drag.

It also features plastic wheel-arch cladding for a tougher appearance, while the rear lights are linked by a full-width light bar.

Interior and luggage capacity

Inside, the Changan Deepal S05 does away with a conventional instrument cluster, bringing driving information and vehicle functions together on a single 15.4-inch screen mounted in the centre of the dashboard.

In terms of practicality, the Japanese crossover has a 492-litre boot, complemented by an additional 159 litres in a front compartment beneath the bonnet, known as a frunk.

Nearly 500 km of range

Beneath the bodywork, the new Deepal S05 is offered in two versions: a rear-wheel-drive model producing 200 kW (271 hp) and 290 Nm, and an all-wheel-drive version, with one motor on each axle, developing 320 kW (435 hp) and 502 Nm. The former takes around 7.5s to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, while the latter completes the same sprint in 5.5s.

Whichever version is selected, it uses the same 68.8 kWh battery. The rear-wheel-drive model claims a combined WLTP range of up to 485 km.

Changan has not disclosed the charging power available for this model. It has, however, confirmed that 15 minutes are enough to raise the battery level from 30% to 80%.

When will it arrive?

The launch date of the new Changan Deepal S05 in the domestic market has not yet been announced.

As for European pricing, Changan has stated that the electric crossover will be available from €38,000 to €45,000, although prices for Portugal have yet to be confirmed.
