BYD Atto 2 DM-i arrives in Portugal from €33,990

Last year, BYD travelled to the Brussels Motor Show to unveil the Atto 2. This year, the same model returns to the same exhibition halls with a major new feature: a plug-in hybrid system, now available in Portugal from €33,990.

Until now, this B-SUV had only been offered in the European market in a fully electric version, which we have already had the chance to test.

BYD Atto 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid system

Aimed at drivers who do not yet want - or are unable - to make a complete switch to an electric car, the BYD Atto 2 now features the brand's DM-i (Dual Mode-intelligent) technology, already seen in other models from the manufacturer.

The system still prioritises fully electric driving, particularly in urban use, where the petrol engine can operate solely as an energy generator. On motorways, however, the combustion engine is allowed to take the lead, giving the electric motor a rest.

In the BYD Atto 2 DM-i, a 98 hp (72 kW) petrol engine works alongside a 145 kW (197 hp) electric motor, delivering a combined output of 156 kW (212 hp).

18 kWh Blade Battery and electric range

The battery is one of the main selling points of this new version. The BYD Atto 2 DM-i uses an 18 kWh Blade Battery (LFP), enabling it to claim an all-electric range of up to 90 km (WLTP).

According to BYD, this variant's total combined range could exceed 1000 km, with an official average consumption figure of 1.8 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 41 g/km.

What else has changed?

The Atto 2 DM-i simply introduces the plug-in hybrid version, so visually everything remains unchanged. Inside, the standout 12.8-inch central touchscreen remains, and, as with other BYD models, it can be positioned vertically or horizontally. As expected, the instrument panel is also fully digital and measures 8.8 inches.

When will it arrive?

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i is already available in Portugal in a single Boost trim level, with prices starting from €33,990.
