Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S: new models arrive on 7 September

Porsche is preparing to surprise the world once again with the unveiling of the most sought-after versions in the 911 line-up: the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S. We have already spotted them testing at the legendary Nürburgring circuit, but the wait is nearly over.

Based on teasers published on the brand’s Instagram profile, the latest take on what is usually one of the most powerful variants in the range will be officially presented at the Munich Motor Show on 7 September.

Although no technical details have yet been officially confirmed, Porsche says this new 911 will be “faster than... fast”. Or schnell in German.

Electrified Porsche 911 Turbo powertrain

All indications suggest that the new Porsche 911 Turbo models will gain electrified assistance, following the example set by the 992.2-generation GTS T-Hybrid. That model introduced an electric motor within its eight-speed PDK gearbox, powered by a 400 V battery with a capacity of 1.9 kWh.

The biggest change, however, was primarily an increase in engine capacity, from 3.0 litres in the 992.1 to 3.6 litres in the 992.2. It remains to be seen whether the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S will receive similar revisions, or retain the current 3.7-litre twin-turbo engine with an electric system added to it.

Whichever route Porsche takes, a substantial power increase is anticipated. Estimates suggest the 911 Turbo will comfortably exceed 600 hp, an increase of 20 hp over the current generation, while the 911 Turbo S is expected to pass the 700 hp mark, up by 50 hp.

What else is new?

Beyond the engine, this new-generation model is expected to feature several visual updates, most notably fresh bumpers and larger air intakes incorporating active aerodynamic solutions.

The lighting system is also set to be redesigned, bringing it closer in appearance to that used on the other versions in the range. At the rear, some also suggest that the exhaust outlets could receive a new visual arrangement.

As mentioned, the new Porsche 911 Turbo 992.2 will be unveiled on 7 September during the Munich Motor Show.
