Omoda and Jaecoo arrive in Portugal in 2025

Portugal’s car market is set to welcome two further Chinese brands. In Madrid, Grupo JAP signed the import agreement for Omoda and Jaecoo, two marques owned by automotive giant Chery Automobile, which will arrive in Portugal during the final quarter of 2025.

Omoda and Jaecoo’s arrival in Portugal

Chery, one of China’s largest car manufacturers, has been steadily expanding its European footprint. Following launches in Spain and the United Kingdom, Portugal will now receive these two SUV-focused brands.

Strong early results in Spain

They should not be underestimated. Their reception in Spain, for instance, has been highly positive: after 17 months, they had already sold more than 20,000 vehicles and now have 90 sales outlets across the country. Their target is to generate €1 billion in revenue in the Spanish market by 2026.

Five SUVs confirmed for Portugal

While it is impossible to predict whether they will achieve similar success in Portugal, Chery Automobile will make its Portuguese debut with five models: the Omoda 5 (pictured above), Omoda 7, Omoda 9, Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 7. The range is scheduled to expand in 2026, with additional versions and new powertrains.

One reason for their Spanish success is the broad choice of powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric options. In a statement, Grupo JAP says that, whatever the segment, Omoda and Jaecoo will stand out in Portugal for their “benchmark value for money”.

China’s growing presence in Portugal

The arrival of Omoda and Jaecoo will further increase the number of Chinese brands available in Portugal. This trend reflects the global strategy of Chinese manufacturers, which is aimed at continuing to gain ground in Europe.
