FIAT Tris: the electric three-wheeler for urban deliveries

FIAT is best known for compact city cars, but the Tris marks a complete first for the brand: an electric three-wheeled goods vehicle that looks very much like the successor to the iconic Piaggio Ape 50.

FIAT Tris: compact dimensions, practical load capacity

Measuring just 3.17 m long, the Tris can carry a Euro pallet and up to 540 kg of payload. It comes in three forms - chassis cab, flatbed and pick-up - and has been designed for both urban centres and rural areas.

Topolino-derived electric powertrain

Its powertrain is a familiar one, shared with the Topolino and Ami. It produces just 9 kW (12 hp) and 45 Nm, while its 6.9 kWh, 48 V lithium battery provides a range of 90 km. It plugs into a domestic socket and reaches a full charge in 4 hours 40 minutes.

Three-wheelers do not have the strongest reputation, yet FIAT says stability is assured by a wide rear track, 12-inch wheels and a long wheelbase. Top speed? 45 km/h.

It is a basic working vehicle, though it still includes the essentials: LED headlights, three-point seat belts, a 5.7-inch digital instrument panel and even a lockable glovebox. A wide range of accessories is also available for everyday use.

Built in Morocco, the FIAT Tris will launch in Africa and the Middle East this year. However, FIAT has not ruled out other markets, including Europe. And why not?
