2026 Opel Astra gains illuminated badge and more electric range

Following the Mokka, Frontera and Grandland Electric, the Opel Astra is now the latest model to gain the new illuminated central badge. It takes pride of place at the front alongside a revised light signature.

The 2026 update brings the Astra closer to the rest of the range in both design and technology. Its front end has therefore been reworked around a slimmer, more technical Opel Vizor, drawing inspiration from the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car, while new 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels are also available.

One of the key additions for the 2026 Opel Astra is the Intelli-Lux HD lighting system. Its adaptive anti-glare headlamps use more than 50,000 LED elements, enabling quicker and more accurate responses to prevent dazzling other road users. In rain or fog, the system automatically adapts the light output, while it can also dim the beam when it identifies road signs to protect the driver's vision.

What about the interior?

Inside, the design appears to remain unchanged. Higher-specification versions stand out with a 12-inch digital instrument display and an adjacent 10-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.

The new feature is that every version now comes with Intelli-Seats as standard. Their central cut-out is inspired by bicycle saddles and is intended to reduce pressure on the coccyx.

AGR-certified seats with massage, memory settings and ReNewKnit materials (100% recyclable) will be offered as an option. Beyond the seats, the cabin will also use a higher proportion of resource-saving materials.

Opel Astra Electric with more range

Finally, the electric Opel Astra 2026 will receive a 58 kWh battery, slightly larger than the current 54 kWh unit. As a result, it will offer up to 454 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle, an increase of 34 km over the current model.

The electric version will also gain Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing it to power external equipment such as electric bicycles. No changes are expected for the remaining powertrains, which should retain the combustion and mild-hybrid options (1.2 Turbo and 145 hp).

When will it arrive?

The new Opel Astra will be unveiled to the public at the Brussels Motor Show, running from 9 to 18 January 2026. The brand has not yet confirmed launch dates or prices, although these details are expected to be announced then.
