Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid: First Deliveries Expected in 2025

Following the success of the combustion-engined Ford Ranger versions, the American brand is now preparing to introduce the plug-in hybrid model, with the first customer vehicles due to arrive at the beginning of next year.

This variant combines a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75 kW (100 PS) electric motor, delivering more torque than the versions currently on sale.

Together, the hybrid system produces 279 PS (205 kW) and an impressive peak torque figure of 690 Nm. Its battery has a usable capacity of 11.8 kWh, providing an all-electric driving range of more than 45 km.

As the electric motor is integrated into the transmission, the Ranger can operate with four-wheel drive even when the combustion engine is switched off.

When it comes to charging, the Ford Ranger PHEV takes four hours to recharge using a 16-amp single-phase charger. In electric driving mode, the Ranger offers four energy-management settings: Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge.

Despite its new powertrain, it retains a payload capacity of up to one tonne and can tow up to 3,500 kg. It also comes with the latest e-4WD system, a two-speed transfer case and a rear differential lock.

A giant electric generator

Another distinctive feature of the Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid is Pro Power Onboard, which effectively turns this pick-up into an electric generator. According to Ford, it allows users to “power high-demand tools and equipment simultaneously, at a worksite or campsite, without the need for a generator”.

The system provides 2.3 kW as standard, while customers can opt for a 6.9 kW installation featuring two 15-amp sockets in the load bed, each supplying 3.45 kW.

Three versions to choose from

Like the combustion-engined versions, the Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid will be offered in Wildtrak and XLT trim levels. However, it also introduces a limited-production launch edition: the Stormtrak, available exclusively with the hybrid powertrain.

It features unique styling details, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a honeycomb grille, wheel-arch vents and a decal package. Matrix LED headlamps, the Flexible Roof Rack System, Trailer Reverse Assist and a 360-degree camera will also be fitted as standard, among other features.

When will it arrive?

Ford Pro unveiled the all-new Ranger PHEV today at IAA Transportation, with the first customer deliveries expected in spring 2025. Prices for the Portuguese market have not yet been announced.
