Kia EV2: new spy shots reveal a production-ready electric SUV

This is not the first time we have “crossed paths” with the Kia EV2, which is set to become the South Korean brand’s smallest and most affordable electric model. Our spy photographers have “caught it” again, this time in a version that is even closer to the one due to enter production shortly.

Its similarities to the EV2 Concept, unveiled around a month ago, are even more apparent despite the heavy camouflage.

Due to reach the market in 2026, the Kia EV2 will sit in the B-SUV segment, with rivals including the BYD Atto 2 and its “cousin”, the Hyundai Inster.

What can we expect from the Kia EV2?

Apart from its platform, no firm technical details have yet been disclosed. It was initially expected that the EV2 would share its platform with the Hyundai Inster, but this no longer appears to be the case.

According to Kia, the EV2 will use E-GMP, the dedicated electric vehicle platform currently underpinning both the EV3 and the much larger EV9. As for the remaining specifications, it had been suggested that it might use the same 42 kWh and 49 kWh batteries fitted to the Inster, although that possibility is now also in doubt.

In addition to the platform, the EV2 is confirmed to support OTA (over-the-air) updates and bidirectional charging technology (V2L), both of which are becoming increasingly common in the brand’s electric cars.

Design close to the EV2 Concept

Kia has also stated that the production model will change little, if at all, from the EV2 Concept. Despite its extensive camouflage, the test vehicle we “caught” supports that claim.

The lighting signature is almost identical to that of the concept, with vertical elements positioned at the outer edges of the bodywork. These are joined by a high beltline, prominent bumpers and plastic-clad wheel arches, giving the South Korean crossover a rugged appearance.

When will it arrive and how much will it cost?

As already mentioned, the Kia EV2 is expected to arrive on the market in the first quarter of 2026. As for pricing, all signs point to a figure below €30,000, which would make this model the South Korean brand’s cheapest electric car.
