New Nissan Micra 2025: what we already know

Nissan has unveiled the new generations of the Micra, Leaf and Juke at the same time - three familiar names with a long history within the brand. They will arrive between this year and next, sharing one defining feature: they will be exclusively electric.

This is a show of strength from Nissan, contrasting with the difficult period it has faced in recent months and continues to face. Its new chief executive has yet to set out the next steps for emerging from the crisis.

Nissan Micra 2025: arrival and shared architecture

The new Nissan Micra will be the first to arrive, later this year. It has long been known that it would share its platform and electric powertrain with the Renault 5, but the two released images reveal that the overlap extends considerably further.

Although it has a distinctive front end, it is impossible to look at the side of the Micra 2025 without recognising the Renault 5’s silhouette. It even shares details such as the trim surrounding the upper window line and the split C-pillar. No interior images have been released.

What we already know

Beyond the images, Nissan has revealed very few details about the model, apart from the elements it will share with the R5: the AmpR Small platform and batteries with matching capacities of 40 kWh and 52 kWh. The Japanese manufacturer says maximum range should exceed 400 km with the larger battery.

Expected motors and production

It remains unconfirmed whether the Micra 2025’s motors will match the Renault 5 in output, although this appears highly likely. Expect power outputs of 95 hp, 120 hp and 150 hp.

A specific date for its full unveiling has not yet been announced, but, with sales scheduled to begin this year, it should not be far away.

The new-generation Micra was designed at the Nissan Design Europe centre in London, United Kingdom, and will be built alongside the Renault 5 at the Ampere ElectriCity factory in Douai, France.
