New BMW M2 CS raises the benchmark

BMW M models already set an exceptionally high benchmark, but versions carrying the CS - Competition Sport - badge take it higher still. The new BMW M2 CS makes that clear.

Unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, the new M2 CS has not yet had all of its secrets revealed by BMW. Full technical specifications are due shortly, although one detail has already been confirmed: its power output.

BMW M2 CS: exterior changes and weight saving

Its differences from the “standard” M2 are immediately apparent. It receives even larger front air intakes, fresh alloy wheel designs and a substantial ducktail spoiler on the boot lid. New carbon-fibre components are also visible, including the roof and boot lid, and they are expected to help cut as much as 30 kg compared with the M2 already known.

BMW M2 CS engine, power and drivetrain

Beneath the bonnet, it retains the S58 engine shared with the larger M3 and M4. However, output rises by a considerable 50 hp to a total of 530 hp. That exceeds the 510 hp delivered by the rear-wheel-drive BMW M4 Competition and matches the output of the M4 Competition xDrive.

Drive continues to go exclusively to the rear wheels, aided by an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A manual transmission appears set to be omitted.

Carbon fibre and Alcantara cabin

Carbon fibre is also one of the dominant materials in the cabin, alongside Alcantara. Both feature across the seat upholstery, steering wheel and door panels, among other areas.

The driving position remains effectively the focal point of the entire interior, with many components angled towards the driver.

All technical specifications for the new BMW M2 CS will be released within the next few days. Until then, there is only the wait.
