The MG S5 EV is the brand’s latest electric SUV, replacing the ZS EV. It uses a new yet familiar architecture: the MSP (Modular Scalable Platform), which also underpins the MG4.
MG highlights this connection with the MG4 - whose successor has already been seen in images - and says the new model is intended to “combine the success of the MG4 EV with a more refined driving experience, cutting-edge technology and a spacious cabin with premium finishes”.
A larger MG S5 EV electric SUV
Compared with its predecessor, only the SUV body style and electric powertrain have been retained. The new S5 EV is considerably larger, measuring 4.476 m long - 15.3 cm more than the ZS EV.
Inside, the key features are a 12.8-inch HD central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display.
Two versions, two batteries
The MG S5 EV range is split between two trim levels - Comfort and Luxury - and two powertrain options, each paired with a battery using different chemistry: a 49 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) unit and a 64 kWh NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) unit.
- Standard: 125 kW (170 hp), 250 Nm, 49 kWh LFP battery, up to 340 km of range (WLTP combined cycle).
- Long Range: 170 kW (231 hp), 350 Nm, 64 kWh NMC battery, up to 480 km of range (WLTP combined cycle).
For DC charging, output reaches 120 kW with the 49 kWh battery and 139 kW with the 64 kWh battery. Both can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes and 28 minutes respectively.
Standard technology and safety equipment
As standard, the MG S5 EV comes with the MG Pilot package, including autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control. It also features an HD 360° camera.
The Luxury version adds equipment such as wireless smartphone charging, although it is worth noting that it is offered exclusively with the higher-capacity battery.
How much does it cost?
The new MG S5 EV is due to arrive in Portugal shortly, with prices starting at €33,390 for the Comfort version and rising to €39,990 for the Luxury version.
