Zeekr 7 GT: The New Electric Estate Challenging BMW, Mercedes and Audi

Zeekr, Geely’s premium electric brand, is planning an assertive European expansion centred on a distinctive new estate car that combines dramatic looks, substantial range and pricing intended to put pressure on BMW, Mercedes and Audi.

Zeekr’s major European expansion begins in 2026

Established in 2021, Zeekr has so far concentrated primarily on China, its domestic market. It already operates in selected northern and eastern European countries, including Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Switzerland, where it registered roughly 5,000 vehicles during 2025. Its next step is considerably more ambitious: a broad western European launch, initially focused on Germany, Belgium and France.

Four battery-electric vehicles will lead the expansion:

  • Zeekr X – a compact C-segment SUV
  • Zeekr 7X – a larger, family-focused D-segment SUV
  • Zeekr 001 – a large coupé-styled SUV, available since 2021
  • Zeekr 7 GT – a sporting D-segment shooting brake intended to serve as the European flagship

The 7 GT is the newest-looking model in the line-up and, for France in 2026, will effectively act as Zeekr’s technological showpiece.

A sleek shooting brake designed to attract BMW buyers

While numerous electric estates adopt restrained, conventional styling, the 7 GT makes a strong commitment to the shooting-brake format. It has a long, low roofline, a short bonnet and a sharply swept rear end. Broad shoulders and sculpted bodywork create the impression of a rapid grand tourer rather than a standard family estate.

Its dimensions reinforce that approach. A lengthy 2.92-metre wheelbase places the wheels close to the car’s corners, limiting the overhangs while increasing interior room. Zeekr’s proposition is straightforward: offer Tesla and Mercedes owners a similarly striking car, but with added practicality.

Large boot and proper rear-seat room

The 7 GT is intended to satisfy both family and lifestyle requirements. Its long wheelbase provides rear occupants with ample legroom, while the flat floor makes the centre rear seat more practical than in many estates derived from combustion-engined cars.

Luggage capacity is one of its principal attractions. Zeekr states:

  • 647 litres of boot space with the rear seats upright
  • Up to 1,737 litres when the rear seats are folded

These numbers place it firmly among large estates, meaning the 7 GT should realistically be able to take the place of a conventional diesel estate for holidays, sporting equipment or sizeable work loads.

Premium equipment from the entry-level “Core RWD”

Zeekr is evidently relying on extensive standard specification to overcome any remaining reservations about a relatively new Chinese marque. Even the opening “Core RWD” model comes with a substantial list of technology and comfort features.

  • 15-inch central OLED touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Adaptive cruise control and a comprehensive package of driver-assistance systems
  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Dual-zone climate control

  • 10-speaker sound system

Zeekr presents material quality and build finish as key priorities, aware that buyers also considering BMW, Audi and Mercedes models are particularly demanding about perceived quality. The cabin is expected to combine soft-touch materials, contrasting trim details and a minimalist dashboard centred around the large screen.

Performance: as much as 646 hp with long-range capability

The technical details underline how seriously Zeekr intends to challenge established European manufacturers. Two outputs are planned, paired with two battery capacities.

The most prominent figure is the 655 km claim for the largest 100 kWh battery. On paper, this surpasses the BMW i5 Touring, which is rated at approximately 602 km, and is clearly ahead of many competitors with figures nearer 500 km.

With a claimed 655 km on a 100 kWh pack, the 7 GT targets long-range touring rather than just urban commuting.

Charging: 22 kW AC and exceptionally rapid DC charging

Charging provision is another potential advantage. A 22 kW onboard AC charger is fitted as standard, useful for quicker charging at three-phase public charge points or domestic wallboxes in European areas where three-phase power is available.

At DC rapid chargers, the 7 GT is claimed to accept up to 480 kW in ideal circumstances. Where a suitably capable charger is available, Zeekr says that replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% takes about 13 minutes. Such a figure would place it among the fastest-charging EVs announced to date.

The estate also features V2L, or vehicle-to-load, capability, enabling the battery to supply power to external equipment. This could include camping appliances or tools at an isolated work site, effectively allowing the car to function as a mobile power bank.

Price: Zeekr’s bid to disrupt BMW

Belgium provides the initial price reference point, with the Zeekr 7 GT starting from €49,990. Final prices for the UK and France in 2026 have not been confirmed, but the Belgian figure clearly indicates the brand’s intended approach: to undercut comparable premium German cars by a meaningful amount while providing more equipment and range.

A sub-€50,000 entry price for a 422 hp, well-equipped electric estate leaves German rivals little room for comfort.

By comparison, a BMW i5 Touring or Mercedes EQE SUV with similar power can readily cost far more once equipped to a comparable specification. Zeekr is counting on both company-car users and private customers examining the figures and accepting an unfamiliar badge in return for stronger value.

How the Zeekr 7 GT compares with major rivals

The BMW i5 Touring is Zeekr’s principal European estate competitor, while China’s Denza Z9 GT pursues a similar electric GT proposition. Based on the data currently available:

Although complete rival specifications are not yet available, the overall position is apparent: the Zeekr’s appeal rests on its mix of range, practicality and list price.

What the 7 GT could mean for French and UK customers

For French customers in 2026, the 7 GT will arrive as many households consider replacing ageing diesel estates but remain concerned about the compromises associated with EV ownership. Its long claimed range is intended to ease concerns over extended motorway journeys, while the spacious boot and adaptable interior retain the usefulness expected of an estate.

Company-car drivers may benefit from reduced operating costs and potentially advantageous tax treatment, depending on local zero-emission vehicle rules. Zeekr’s high standard specification should also limit the need to navigate lengthy and expensive options lists.

Three technical points are particularly relevant to buyers considering the 7 GT:

  • Battery capacity (kWh): A larger number, such as 100 kWh, generally delivers greater range but also adds weight and cost. The 7 GT is offered with both 75 kWh and 100 kWh batteries, allowing customers to choose between affordability and longer-distance capability.
  • Rapid charging rate (kW): The 480 kW maximum is an ideal-condition headline figure. Actual charging performance depends on the charger’s capability, the battery temperature and its state of charge, so real charging times can be longer.
  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L): This allows the vehicle to be used as a source of electricity. Examples include powering laptops on a remote work site, charging an e-bike while away, or keeping a small refrigerator running during a power cut.

Real-world uses: who the 7 GT suits most

Consider a household in Lyon or Manchester that undertakes weekly commuting alongside regular long-distance journeys. With the larger battery, the 7 GT could complete an extended motorway trip with only one rapid-charging stop, provided high-power charging facilities are available. Its 22 kW AC charger is useful for overnight stays at hotels or relatives’ homes with a three-phase supply, reducing the time required to replenish the battery.

For self-employed workers and smaller businesses, the large boot and V2L system offer the ability to transport equipment and power it on site. Photographers, tradespeople and outdoor-event organisers could connect directly to the vehicle instead of bringing a separate generator.

Questions still remain over long-term reliability, residual values, dealer availability and software support throughout France and the wider region, all of which will affect customer confidence. Nevertheless, the central ingredients for a credible challenge are present: strong specifications, aggressive pricing and a direct alternative to cars such as the BMW i5 Touring, which have long held a leading position in the premium estate market.
