Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype is the third-fastest car ever at the Nürburgring

Just two weeks have passed since the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra - the Chinese brand’s high-performance saloon - claimed the title of the fastest production electric car ever around the Nürburgring. Xiaomi has now made headlines at the German circuit once again, this time with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype.

This is not the first occasion on which the Chinese prototype has tackled the “Green Hell”, but its second attempt brought a substantial improvement. It has now become the third-fastest car ever around the Nürburgring.

Put another way, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype was 24 seconds (!) quicker than on its first “visit” to the Nürburgring, completing a lap in 6min22.091s. That puts it behind only the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo (5min19.546s) and the Volkswagen ID.R (6min05.336s). Fortunately, footage of the full lap is available:

David Pittard drives the Nordschleife lap

Vincent Radermecker was responsible for driving the production model, while David Pittard was selected for the SU7 Ultra Prototype. Pittard is highly familiar with the longer Nordschleife layout.

More than 2,000 kg of downforce

The SU7 Ultra Prototype retains the production model’s three-motor arrangement - two motors on the rear axle and one on the front - delivering a combined output of 1138 kW (1548 hp) and 1770 Nm of torque. These figures allow it to complete the 0–100 km/h sprint in just 1.97 seconds, while its claimed top speed exceeds 350 km/h.

In aerodynamic terms, the production-spec SU7 Ultra can already produce 285 kg of downforce, but the prototype takes this to another level: 2145 kg. Even so, it has a “contained” kerb weight of 1900 kg, made possible by the use of carbon fibre for every exterior panel, which cuts 500 kg from the overall package.

How much does the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra cost?

In its home market, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra production model is priced at 529,900 yuan. Converted directly at the current exchange rate, that equates to roughly €64,000 - in other words, less than a Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.

By comparison, its direct rival, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package, has a starting price of more than €253,000 in the UK market.
