Polestar 4 introduces Google Maps Live Lane Guidance

The Swedish brand will introduce new software and a new Google Maps feature in the Polestar 4, known as Live Lane Guidance. Its purpose is easy to understand: how often have you followed navigation directions without being sure which lane you should be in? We put the question to our team, and the most common answer was “almost always”.

This new feature is intended to remove that uncertainty by displaying a dynamic representation of road lanes while navigating. It should therefore eliminate all, or nearly all, doubts when a lane change is required, particularly at complicated junctions or on dual carriageways with several exits.

Unlike conventional systems, which only display static arrows, it provides an animated, real-time view of the available lanes and highlights the one the driver should use before the next instruction. The information appears directly on the central display, with the vehicle's position and direction updated continuously.

Distraction-free navigation with Google services

According to Polestar, the feature will enhance the distraction-free driving experience by using the built-in connection to Google automotive services. These include Google Maps, a virtual assistant and the Play Store, the US technology giant's app store.

All of these functions are centrally processed, ensuring that every necessary instruction is updated automatically according to traffic on the selected route or unexpected changes, such as an accident, flooding or various other incidents.

When will it arrive?

As mentioned, the Polestar 4 will be the first vehicle to incorporate this tool into its infotainment system, but it will not be the only one. It is expected to reach other models equipped with Android Automotive soon.

Google Maps Live Lane Guidance is due to be introduced in the Polestar 4 with the brand's next software update, which is scheduled to arrive before the end of the year.
