Audi A3 Sportback plug-in hybrid: prices for the new TFSIe versions

The latest Audi A3 Sportback update is now also offered with plug-in hybrid powertrains. Discover the prices of the two new versions available on the national market.

Audi A3 Sportback TFSIe powertrain and electric range

Compared with the versions already known, the most significant change is naturally the powertrain. On the combustion side, the petrol 1.5 TFSI evo2 engine replaces the previous 1.4 TFSI, benefiting from a more efficient combustion process.

As for the electrical element of the system, the motor remains integrated into the 6-speed S tronic gearbox, although output has risen to 85 kW (116 hp) and torque to 330 Nm.

Battery capacity has also doubled, increasing from 13 kWh to 25.7 kWh (19.7 kWh usable). As a result, Audi now quotes a maximum electric-only range of 141 km (WLTP) for the A3 Sportback TFSIe. The previous maximum claimed figure was 67 km.

Audi A3 Sportback TFSIe charging options

For the first time, Audi's plug-in hybrid systems also gain the option of direct-current charging. In the A3 Sportback TFSIe, maximum charging power can reach 50 kW (DC).

This means charging the battery from 10% to 80% takes less than 30 minutes. With more conventional alternating-current charging (AC), at up to 11 kW, a full charge requires around 2.5 hours.

A sportier A3 Sportback

Both models come as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, Audi drive Select for choosing driving modes, and air conditioning. However, the 45 TFSIe also receives the sportier S line exterior styling package as standard, including the Singleframe front grille, a larger rear spoiler and more aggressively styled bumpers.

The Black Plus styling package adds a range of black elements, including the side-window trims, door-mirror housings and even the brand and model badges, which receive a darker finish too.

Range and prices

The updated Audi A3 Sportback plug-in hybrid can be ordered from this month in two versions:

• 40 TFSIe: 1.5 TFSI evo2 petrol engine producing 110 kW (150 hp). Combined with the electric motor, it delivers a combined output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 350 Nm of maximum torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and has a quoted top speed of 225 km/h.

• 45 TFSIe: 1.5 TFSI evo2 petrol engine with an additional 27 hp (177 hp). Working alongside the electric motor, this version now produces a combined output of 200 kW (272 hp) and 400 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h from rest in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 237 km/h.

In fully electric mode, both versions have a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

The A3 Sportback 40 TFSIe has a starting price of €45,810, while configuration of the more powerful and sportier 45 TFSIe begins at €49,446.
