Toyota has brought the bZ7 to the Shanghai Motor Show, a new all-electric saloon positioned as the brand’s flagship model for the Chinese market. Developed in China for China, it highlights Toyota’s commitment to the world’s largest car market - and to electrification.
The Toyota bZ7 strengthens the Japanese manufacturer’s electric-car push in China, which already includes the bZ4X, bZ3, bZ3X and bZ5. Of these models, only the bZ4X is sold in Europe; all the others are available exclusively in China.
Like the bZ3X, the bZ7 has been created through Toyota’s partnership with GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group): “the new model will combine the strengths of each company - Toyota’s quality with China’s advanced technology”.
Huawei has also contributed to the development of the Toyota bZ7. It will be the first Toyota-GAC model to feature HarmonyOS, the operating system developed by the Chinese technology giant.
What do we know about the Toyota bZ7?
Although Toyota has yet to release the final specifications, this all-electric saloon will measure more than five metres in length - making it longer than a Camry, for instance.
Its 21-inch alloy wheels and exterior styling reinforce the identity of the bZ range. Particular attention goes to the C-shaped LED headlamps, an increasingly recognisable Toyota design signature. The car’s profile is smooth and elegant.
Interior design and materials
Toyota has focused on a more sophisticated cabin. White leather seats match the steering wheel, while wood trim features on the doors and centre console. The large central display takes centre stage, but it is the more premium materials and finishes that place the bZ7 above the other models in the bZ line-up.
When will it arrive in China?
The Toyota bZ7 is expected to launch in China closer to the end of the year and, to reiterate, it will be exclusive to the Chinese market.
