China’s automotive industry is on everyone’s lips. As well as being the world’s largest car market, China has now become the biggest importer of cars for the first time, overtaking Japan, which had topped the ranking for several decades.

Chinese car copies still persist

Yet, despite its industrial and technological progress, rudimentary copies of European-brand cars are still a common sight on Chinese roads. Put simply, they are the sort of vehicles that helped give Chinese marques a reputation that has proved hard to shake.

BMVV: half BMW, half Porsche, 100% Chinese

One example is the BMVV - yes, BMVV… - shown in the featured image. This 100% electric model has a front end reminiscent of BMW vehicles, while its rear is clearly inspired by Porsche models. Half BMW, half Porsche, 100% Chinese:

It is built by Shandong Phantom New Energy Auto Co. and, according to the available specification sheet, delivers 5 kW (6.8 hp) and reaches a top speed of 50 km/h. Its claimed range is between 100 and 200 km under the NEDC type-approval cycle.
